"Our group of 11 friends rented this villa to celebrate a 70th birthday and also 25 years of friendship. This villa met and exceed every possible expectation. When you arrive, you drive down this beautiful driveway and at the end is this gorgeous home with breath-taking views. The walled town of Monteleone d'Orvieto is to the west and another equally beautiful town is in the east. The interior of the villa is so large with many rooms for gathering, or quiet areas if you want to sit and read a book. Many of our group like to cook, so we often gathered around the very well equiped larger kitchen to make gnocchis or prepare some appetizers to share along with some fantastic wine of the region. There are many dining options either inside or take some tables outside and enjoy your meal with the beautiful views of the olive trees, gardens and the towns nearby. We hired Anna for two evenings and were thrilled with her meal choices and culinary capabilities. Our group also enjoyed taking a cooking lessons at a nearby restaurant - highly recommended! Each day we went out exploring various towns in Northern Umbria and Tuscany. Some of the highlights were Orvieto, Multipulciano, Perugia, Siena, Florence. There is a good grocery store in Fabro, about 10 minutes away - very near A1. The local town has a bar/cafe called Seven that is great and also a small store and bakery. People were very nice helping us out with directions, even drove us to a winery 10 minutes away because they thought we might get lost. Martina is such a delight to work with. She will come at the beginning of your stay and tour you around the house and find our what your particular needs are and how she can help you attain them. Our group would love to go back again for another stay and next time spend more time enjoying the villa and the countryside near it. It truly was A TRIP OF A LIFETIME!"

"From the time you enter this Villa you will be amazed...... The View is so breath taking, the villa so clean and magnificent. We had a family reunion there and it was so perfect. We made pizzas in the brick oven, swam in the pool, everyone had the time of their lives. We also took day trips to Orvietto, Assisi, Caste de Leone, Cortona. Just a beautiful vacation. Thank you Martina and everyone who made this vacation memorable!!"

"If you want to have an authentic, peaceful and incredibly relaxing vacation then you should choose il Berneto for AT LEAST a week's time. I have stayed there twice now and every time I leave feeling that one week is not long enough, next year I want to stay for a month. The amount of attention to detail is incredible. I ate out of the luscious garden every day, used the family-made olive oil and picked cherries from the cherry tree. The owners are incredibly thoughtful and hospitable hosts who have put effort towards your every need. Not only is the villa itself incredible, it is walking distance from the quaint, off the beaten tourist path, hill top town of Monteleone di Orvieto which is breath taking to walk through the old town. The villa is also centrally located so it is easy to do day trips to other cities such as Montepulciano, Orvieto and a bike's distance to Civita del Pieve. I went both for a family reunion and I ran a yoga/mediation retreat there, the villa was perfect for both uses. The indoor spaces really lend towards family living; there are huge tables where everyone can sit together and enjoy dinner. Other perks besides the cherry trees and garden: swimming pool, bikes, local Italian cell phone to call for reservations or call Martina if you have a question, brick pizza oven, play toys for kids and so much more I can't think of right now. Love to il Berneto, I wish that everyone could experience this place at least once in their lives, as for me, I am going back next year, we already booked for the beginning of July."

"Fantastic-a wonderful fun and relaxing 10 days "in our second home" in Italy. Il Berneto became our home for the second time in 3 years. Our family of 14 ranging in age from 3 to grandparents loved everything about this fabulous farm home. It is so spacious that everyone has their own space yet cozy enough that we can enjoy being together for meals and socializing. The house and the grounds are everything you would imagine in a movie about Umbria. The pool is perfect for the warm days in June. We also enjoyed playing volleyball and soccer on the large lawn. The friendly and small town of Monteleone d'Orvieto is but a short walk from the villa and provides great opportunities for meeting the local residents, perfecting your Italian, and having some great meals. The new Caffellatte offers the most mouth-watering pastries and freshly made gelato-new flavors daily. We loved the fantastic meals prepared by Anna-all homemade and very traditional. Angelino was there daily to tend to the garden and grounds and assuring us that anything we needed would be provided. They are the heart of making our visit so great. No one wanted to ever leave and the children all would like to move there for the summer. When we took day trips to other towns everyone was anxious to return to the peace, quiet and tranquility of Il Berneto. For our family this is truly a magical place in the most beautiful country Italy"

"... this year at Il Berneto. And now we are at the final morning of a fabulous week, capped off last night by Anna's wonderful for course meal. (Crostata! mmmmm!) Sixteen of us relaxed, swam, talked, ate, and drank a few glasses of wine -- an absolutely perfect week here in this gorgeous house. Six kids (and most of the adults) made excellent use of the swimming pool; we picked and ate delicious tomatoes, basil, and chard from the vegetable garden; cooked pizzas in the pizza oven; walked to Bar Seven for gelato and coffee; stayed up late chatting and laughing under a full moon. An amazing week!
The house is incredibly comfortable. Everything that we needed was here, and we're already thinking about how and when we can all get together again at Il Berneto.
Thank you Martina. And thank you, too, Anna, Angelino, and everyone else who made our stay here possible.
Pat, Roger, Tim, Kate, Leo, Richard, Nicky, Cara, Gemma, Joe, Emilie, Mark, Sarah, the twins Rosie and Ella, and little Georgia. From Bishops Stortford, Miami, Newcastle, Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea, and Gioiella."

"Il Berneto was the perfect vacation spot for our family trip with 13 people from US and Denmark. The town was close and neighborly, the house and pool were exactly as expected from the listing information and pictures, we could not have asked for more!
It is a 5 minute walk to the nearby town, that has a grocery store, several restaurants and the always-open "7 Cafe" (ask for Michele). The people could not have been more friendly and helpful, by the end of the week we felt like part of the town life. Martina, Il Berneto’s owner, was very helpful in giving us a tour of the town on our arrival and arranging restaurant reservations.
The house is in excellent condition, with much-appreciated air-conditioning in all the bedrooms and renovated bathrooms. Martina was very helpful and responsive before we arrived, she went out of her way to help us set-up an extra bedroom with a double (sofa) bed. The pool and grounds were well-maintained, and Angelino was there every morning to make sure everything was in order. We even picked vegetables from the garden for salads during the stay. The new pool is large, with plenty of chairs and shaded seating, games and pool toys were provided as well. The pool made the trip as the place for everyone to gather and hang out!
Anna and Angelino were the perfect caretakers. They helped us cook pizza’s one night in the pizza oven (ask Anna to bring some of her ingredients!), and Anna cooked a delicious Italian meal for the whole family during the week. They were always there to help us when we needed it.
For restaurants, Tana del Gufo, across from 7-café, has excellent pizza’s and steaks; the restaurant ‘up’ the round-about (L’Ape Regina) has good Italian staples of pasta and pizza. If you are looking for someone to help book tours, wine-tastings, horseback rides, during your visit call Kaylee at Chow & Ciao. We intended to visit different hill-town while we were there, but the house, pool and town provided everything we were looking for in a taste of Italy!
We look forward to our next visit to Italy and Il Berneto!"
Perfect for a Yoga Reatreat

"This is the second time I have hosted a Yoga Retreat at Il Berneto. Some guests came back a second time because they loved it so much. The house is so rich in history and beauty and ideally located for day trips to Florence, Sienna , Assisi, Montepulciano, Perugia and other enchanting hill towns. Watch the Rick Steves' travel show on Italy's historic hill towns and you will book your ticket right then! We had yoga and meditation in the AM and then folks went out for day trips. We had a communal dinner each night and those hours together over local wines and fresh, local produce and cheeses were one of the highlights of the Retreat. You can even walk to local restaurants and markets that are little gems of wonderfully fresh food in delightful settings. "

"We want a house that is quiet and secluded, where we can relax and not have to drive everywhere. But our teenagers want activities on the doorstep. Il Berneto gave us both. We had tennis, cafe, restaurants and ice cream bar, as well as a beautiful old medieval hill town just ten minutes' walk down the lane.
The house is traditional Tuscan farmhouse style, set in a stunning landscape with lots of space, including a volleyball field and table tennis, BBQ and pizza oven in the outbuildings, which also house bikes for holidaymakers' use. The pool, wth diving board and lots of comfortable loungers, gazebo and lots of shaded areas around, was fantastic. Thanks to the fact that the house is at such a height, there was an occasional, and very welcome, gentle breeze.
We could never tire of the view here, looking out on the beautiful old town and towards the Tuscan hills, it is magnificent. None of the photographs do it justice, but I don't think it is possible to capture the panoramic view with shots from a still camera. Listening to the church bells and the drumming in the village - which was preparing for its annual fesitval - was lovely too.
The housekeeper, Anna, ensured everything was spick and span and even kindly repaired a pair of shorts that ripped during an energetic game of tennis. She also made us an absolutely delicious meal. We will always remember her brushetta, it was was so intensely flavoursome, and her tomato and mozzarella lasagne (so light, soft, melt-in-the-mouth) was the best we ever tasted. I have never stayed in a house with such a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed making meals with all the lovely local produce - not to mention Il Berneto's own olive oil and the delicious lettuce and tomatoes from the garden, which, like the pool, was carefully tended by Anna's husband Angelino.
We went out occasionally to the local Bar Seven, where the pastries and coffee are very good - not to mention the people watching! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. We also loved the pizzas at the restaurant opposite, and the ice creams from the other cafe bar. It was so handy having the little shop at the end of the drive to stock up on provisions. We also visited a number of the surrounding hill towns and villages, all very interesting and attractive. The house is perfectly situated for touring. The older children took trains to Rome and Florence for day trips - which meant we didn't have to drive! Thanks to the Silvanos, Anna and Angelino..."

"If you want to revel in beauty as you look out each and every window...this country house if for you. Olive groves, vineyards, medieval castle all within view. Walking distance to markets. Lovely pool and lots of space. I held a yoga retreat there for 20 people and everyone said it was one of the best experiences of their lives. I plan on doing it again. The beauty of stayig here is that you can take day trips to Florence, Orvieto, Perugia, Sienna, Montepulciano or just hike close by. Cook in the villa's kitchen or eat out. Perfect for family reunions. Highly recommend!"

"We have rented quite a few houses in Europe over the years and we could not have been more pleased with il Berneto, its position, and the facilities that were provided. Everything was beautifully presented, clean and comfortable. The house provided flexible accommodation, with a good mix of bedrooms and seemingly endless bathrooms! The reception rooms were well furnished and easily accommodated our party with three dinning and sitting areas. The pool area is great with a large pool equipped with plenty of games and comfortable sun loungers. We enjoyed fantastic weather which meant that we did not need to use the satellite TV's or the Internet, which were both available. 2 mobile telephones were thoughtfully provided for our use. The real magic of the property lies in its position with commanding views across the Umbrian countryside (one can see 20 to 30km) and its close proximity to the hill top town of Monteleone di Orvieto. It is a short five minute walk into this unspoiled medieval walled town, and we felt very privileged to spend a week amongst such gracious and welcoming people. The town provided everything one needed from restaurants to an excellent supermarket, and even our almost total failure with the Italian language did not deter the locals from making us feel very welcome. It is very unusual to come across a family that feels so passionate about its property and also wishes to ensure that those families lucky enough to rent their home have a truly stress free experience. We have no hesitation in re booking for next year; the first time we will ever have returned to the same property."

"Paradise found, that is how I would describe Il Berneto. Our extended family of 15 spent a wonderful week at Il Berneto in June, 2010. The villa was fully equipped, providing all the amenities one would need, and exceeded our expectations in so many ways. It is very private yet close enough to a small town that you can easily walk to a local restaurant or grocery store. The villa provided plenty of space for all and we never felt crowded or confined, even when the weather didn’t cooperate and we spent most of the day inside. Our original intent was to occupy our days by taking various day trips to outlying towns, but we found that once we arrived we didn’t want to leave. We spent our days swimming, visiting town and the local merchants, going for walks, and playing volleyball. A highlight of each day was sitting down to a meal we all helped prepare using fresh local ingredients, some even from the villa garden. We especially enjoyed (as did the kids) making pizza in the stone oven, which took much longer to prepare than eat! Martina was genuinely welcoming, treated us like family, and made us feel right at home. Her hospitality was beyond compare. The caretakers were friendly and readily available to assist with any requests for help but never disturbing. The meals cooked by Anna were delicious and we felt like royalty on the nights we indulged and had her prepare and serve our dinner. I wish I could post pictures of the mozzarella served on our first night, as it was worthy of a gourmet magazine cover! I still laugh when I think of our response as it was served. I honestly would not change a thing at Il Berneto other than to shorten the distance between Seattle and Monteleone d Orvieto so that we could visit more often! Thank you Martina for sharing your wonderful family villa!
Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children."

"Our family of 17 stayed at Il Berneto and had an absolutely marvelous time. The villa is so well equipped to accommodate large groups having all the kitchen amenities you could ever want. The children had room to run and play, swim and ride bicycles. When we weren't touring the countryside, we often walked to the village for ice cream and aperitifs. The setting was rich with Italian countryside charm and ambience and the views (particularly sunsets) were spectacular. As hosts, Martina and Marco are graciously warm, considerate and generous in their efforts to accomodate and make you feel welcome and at ease. We leave with fond memories and will recommend Il Berneto to all of our friends and family should they consider Umbria for a vacation."

"If you are looking for a comfortable, classy, peaceful and authentically Italian vacation rental, Il Berneto is the place for you. The historical farm house has been renovated with style. It is charming, clean and extremely well equipped. The pool, vegetable garden and property are manicured and maintained to the highest standards. The location and town of Monteleone d' Orvieto is pastoral, calming and safe. Spend you days resting by the pool with a view of the Umbrian countryside or visiting the nearby hilltop towns and other historical sites."

"Convenient location and excellent accommodations. It was so relaxing and enjoyable to come home after a day of touring and enjoy the pool followed by a lovely dinner while watching the sunset. There were 12 of us and the villa was very comfortable for this many people. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and thoughtfulness in assuring that the villa was well equipped. We loved the salads from the garden, marmalades, cherries and olive oil from the orchards. Even the gardener shared his home-made wine with us. We had beautiful family vacation at Il Berneto. I highly recommend this villa."
